This policy does not apply to the practices of the host of a poster session event (“Poster Session Host”), nor does it apply to other companies or individuals that PosterCast does not own, employ, manage or control.
Information We Collect
The information we learn from users helps us not only provide the Service but also to personalize and continually improve each user’s experience with the Service. Here are the types of information we gather:
Information You Give Us
Personal Information: When you create an account with PosterCast, we may ask you for certain limited personally identifiable information such as your name and email address, which we will use to contact or identify you. You will also have the option to provide a photo of yourself for your public profile. You can choose not to provide us with any or all of the information we specify or request, but then you may not be able to register with us or to take advantage of some or all of our features.
User-generated Content: The content you upload to or create on the Service, such the audio files describing a specific poster (such audio file, your “PosterCast”) and, if available, a .pdf copy of your poster (such PosterCasts and .pdfs, “Content”), may be displayed to us and other users located within your poster session event (“Authorized Users”) along with associated metadata such as date, location and time created. As with any profile information, you should exercise caution when uploading or creating Content that will be available to other users.
Automatic Information Collected
Like many other websites, we also collect information through cookies and other automated means. Information of this sort includes:
Technical information about your browser and mobile device: This information is used in the aggregate to help us optimize the Service for common browsers and devices.
Usage information, such as the PosterCast audio files, poster .pdfs and other Content from PosterCast that you interact with: We collect and use this behavioral information and may use it in anonymized and aggregate forms to generate statistics about users and how the Services are being used and to facilitate targeted communications and advertisements but the information is not shared in any form that could be used to identify you personally. Please see “How we use and share the information we collect,” below, for further information and choices about sharing information with third parties.
Location-based data: We may access, collect, monitor and/or remotely store “location data,” which may include GPS coordinates (e.g. latitude and/or longitude) or similar information regarding the location of your mobile device to determine whether you are an Authorized User (i.e., a poster session attendee). You will always have the option to disable location-based services. However, the Service may not function properly if use or availability of location data is impaired or disabled.
Crashes and error reports: If you encounter a crash or error while using our Service, we may generate a crash report that includes technical, usage and, if you are logged in, your account information so that we can diagnose and potentially prevent the problem in the future.
Information Collected from other Sources. We may also periodically obtain both personal and non-personal information about you from third parties, such as the Poster Session Host.
How We Use and Share the Information We Collect
We use the information we collect for things like:
We will make your Content available to the Poster Session Host and Authorized Users. By using the Service, you authorize us to share your Content as described herein, and understand that we will not be responsible for Poster Session Host and Authorized User treatment, usage or protection of such information. We may provide anonymized and aggregate usage data (such as what PosterCasts have been accessed) to the Poster Session Host, if any, but the information is not shared in any form that could be used to identify you personally. The use of your Content and usage data by Authorized Users and the Poster Session Host, as well as any personal information you directly provide to such Authorized Users or Poster Session Host, is not subject to our control.
Sometimes we may be required to share your information in response to a regulation, court order or subpoena. We may also share information when we believe it's necessary to comply with the law. We also may share information to respond to a government request or when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property or safety of PosterCast, our customers, or others; to prevent harm or loss; or in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual unlawful activity.
We may also share your information in the event of a corporate sale, merger, acquisition, dissolution or similar event.
PosterCast uses reasonable security measures to store and protect the information under our control and appropriately limit access to it. However, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk.
We use a variety of information security measures to protect your online transactions with us. The Service uses encryption technology, such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), to protect your sensitive personal information during data transport.
We want you to feel confident using the Services. However, no system can be completely secure. Therefore, although we take steps to secure your information, we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your personal information, Content, or other communications will always remain secure. We will notify you by email if we have reason to believe that your personal information has been compromised due to a security breach or used in an unauthorized manner, but by using this Service, you agree to release us from any and all claims arising out of unauthorized use of your information.
You may choose to:
To do any of these, simply notify us of this decision by one of these methods:
We will retain your profile information and Content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. If you close your account, we may still retain certain information associated with your account for analytical purposes and recordkeeping integrity, as well as to prevent fraud, collect any fees owed, enforce our terms and conditions, take actions we deem necessary to protect the integrity of our web site or our users, or take other actions otherwise permitted by law. Deactivating your account does not automatically delete your account or Content from our database, but regardless of any retention policy we will make reasonable efforts to enable you to delete your profile information from our database upon request. However, if certain information has already been provided to Poster Session Hosts, Authorized Users or other third parties, retention of that information will be subject to those third parties' policies and you may not be able to remove or edit your information from some internet databases.
We restrict use of the Service to individuals age 18 and above, and do not knowingly seek or collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18.
